Style: Classical/Chamber Homepage Releases: Sørensen-Takemitsu- Schönberg-Tómasson (12K002 - 2006)
| The group’s initial undertaking was a tour around Iceland in the summer of 2003, but since then the group has held a number of concerts. Ísafold specializes in 20th century and contemporary music, with an emphasis on meticulous performance and a diverse repertoire. The group’s goal is to bring this music to as many people as possible, and to this end Ísafold has toured far and wide around Iceland. The ensemble is made up of young musicians who either are pursuing studies with conservatories abroad or have completed their studies and are working as professional musicians and music teachers in Iceland and abroad. The members of Ísafold are all outstanding musicians in their own right—a number of the members have received international accolades to this effect. Several Icelandic composers have written pieces especially for the group, most recently Haukur Tómasson, who received the Nordic Council’s Music Prize in 2004. At the beginning of 2005 Ísafold and its director, Daníel Bjarnason, were nominated for the Icelandic Music Award for Most Promising New Act in the category of Classical Music. The group continues to receive strong reviews wherever they perform, garnering attention for their meticulous and compelling performance at concerts.
