Jakobinarina are the new kids of 12 Tónar – a bunch of rocked out naughty guys with a taste for spiky power pop punk.
Straight out of Hafnarfjördur, Iceland, Jakobinarina shows every sign of blasé teenage energy and a taste for live action ’n’ attitude.
From the ashes of punk band Lufthansa paired with Lada Sport, Jakobinarina is close to being the best line-up one could ever ask for. With guitar-driven songs crammed with hooks as hard as ICE, accompanied by singer Gunnar’s anglophile and ironic lyrics and not the least his schizophrenic dance moves, Jakobinarina ”threatens to beat the Brits at their own game” (as iD mag puts it).
Their inspiration from white noise icons such as The Fall’s Mark E., Ian Curtis, and even The Islands (ex-Unicorns) is undoubtable, and the cacophonic name-dropping continuous as Jako has learned a tough lesson in rock’n’roll from touring with Brian Jonestown Massacre, Love is All, Franz Ferdinand and now Kaiser Chiefs.
Jakobinarina is one of those bands that makes the live scene shake and shiver. The band has toured extensively, and after winning Iceland’s Battle of the Bands 2005, they played Iceland Airwaves both ’05 and ’06, as well as impressing the yankees at SXSW ´06 with no less than 4 gigs and being picked one out of 5 best bands by Rolling Stone magazine. 2007 sees them touring with Kaiser Chiefs, The Cribs, supporting Franz Ferdinand, and headlining Airwaves once again. With Sigur Rós' words: "If we weren't in a band, we'd want to be in Jakobinarina."
Jakobinarina are Gunnar Ragnarsson (vocals), Heimir Gustur Valdimarsson (guitar), Hallberg Dadi Hallbergsson (guitar), Björgvin Ingi Pétursson (bass), Sigurdur Möller Sívertsen (drums) og Ágúst Fannar Ásgeirsson (keyboard).
Their debut album THE FIRST CRUSADE (12T042) is out October 1st on 12 Tónar in Europe, except for the UK on Regal/Parlophone.
