Birgir Örn Steinarsson has been the singer/guitarist of Icelandic indie rock band Maus for quite some time now. Everyone calls him Biggi, and you’re welcome to do so as well. He moved from his hometown of Reykjavik, Iceland, to London late 2004, to focus on his creative work after it was apparent that Maus were to go on an indefinite hiatus. The album was produced by Bomb the Bass’ Tim Simenon with co-producer Geoff Smith (of Frozen Flames), and mostly recorded by Biggi himself here and there around Reykjavik and London. Id is a personal, creative and interesting pop album that shows Biggi has a good control over his electronic-pop-creations...

in his own words:

'my name is Birgir Orn Steinarsson, i've been the singer/guitarist of icelandic band Maus for quite some time now. everyone calls me biggi, and your welcome to do so as well. i moved from my hometown of reykjavik, iceland, to London late 2004, to focus on my creative work. i've just finished my debut solo album called "id", wich will be released this coming september.

the album was produced by tim simenon and geoff smith and mixed by jono podmore.
i also work as a producer, producing both my own album with them and others. so far ive recorded albums with kimono, lokbra and bag of joys. recently i've been doing some remixes for other bands. one of them "bigital onomatapoea" (kimono) is available here. send me a line, if you have some music you would like me to bigitize!...

currently i´m working on arranging my songs for a 6 piece orchestra, dubbed the bigital orchestra because of the mixture of classical instruments with Tim´s bleeps and squeeks. we have a few gigs lined up in London and Iceland in the next months, so stay tuned!'

Press:

"I would call it beautiful, but gorgeous doesn´t even begin to describe it. Simply put, it´s the kind of music you´ll pay import prices for, and while you wait for your CD to arrive, you´ll listen to the same songs on MySpace over and over and over."
- Emily Strong. Soundcheck Magazine, US.

"id is an album that quietly sparkles with deep-space lullabies and headphone techno. Most tracks are remiscent of the richly hued and kaleidoscopic designs of a Cubist painting, they are busy stretches of sonic swirls, riding a shuffling groove. But the jewel in the album´s crown belongs to "Sofdu med ljosid a," a gorgeous digital epic that captures the heart with its warm washes of muted synths. Like a hot spike burning through ice, the song cuts deep and betrays a sadness so lovely, it hurts. At present, Biggi has yet to crack the North American market. Until he does, id remains a tiny gem tucked away in a cove of obscurity, making it a valuable find."
- Imran Khan, Inside Entertainment, Canada
